Understanding injection molding and mold flow simulation
Designers, engineers and our mold shop use specific plastic injection molding simulation software, to improve the initial designs of plastic parts and injection molds.
There are several packages on the market such as Moldflow from autodesk. Another famous plastic inejction molding package is Moldex 3d, The software guides designers, mould makers, and engineers through simulation setup and results interpretation to show how changes to wall thickness, gate location, material, and geometry affect manufacturability.
Using moldflow non existing or non tooled components can be analysed for manufacturability. In the past there was a risk that flaws in part designs would not be noticed until a mold tool was made. Changes in part and mold design at this stage would be expensive and time consuming. So design mistakes such as thick sections or sudden wallthickness changes can be easily detected
